AES was contracted by a major oil company to design and deliver a Diverless Cleaning and Inspection System to use specifically on Deepwater Flex Joint Riser Connections. The tool comes packaged in a ROV belly skid for ease of deployment through the splash zone. As the ROV approaches the Flex Joint connection the tool is hydraulically delivered to the ROV’s manipulators which lift the tool out of the skid and hydraulically clamp the cleaning system just below the Flex Joint. The water blaster nozzle or the optional high speed rotating brush can effectively remove marine growth by their ability to articulate into the hard to reach spaces of the flexible portion of the connector. An LED pan/rotate color zoom camera is mounted on the tool for the purpose of monitoring the cleaning process and verifying the work has been done in accordance with MMS requirements. Once cleaning and inspection is complete the tool is easily stored back on the ROV belly skid allowing the vehicle to proceed to other tasks without having to return to the surface.
